Honda’s Electric Vision: The Electric Generation
Our commitment is clear: Honda will produce hybrid, plug-in hybrid, battery electric and fuel cell cars for 100% of European sales by 2022. We are so confident in this that we have brought forward our goal three years ahead from 2025 to 2022.
Tom Gardner, Senior Vice President, Honda Motor Europe, commented "The pace of change in regulation, the market, and consumer behaviour in Europe means that the shift towards electrification is happening faster here than anywhere else in the world. As the pace of change continues to accelerate, we need to act sooner to meet these challenges head-on. I’m delighted to announce that all of Honda’s mainstream models here in Europe will be electrified not by 2025, but three years earlier, by the end of 2022.”
The acceleration will see six electrified models launched over the next three years, with Honda e and new hybrid-only Jazz variant leading the way.
e: Technology
‘e: Technology’ will denote the type of powertrain or a vehicle as well as signifying the environmentally friendly credentials of the product; Jazz is the first vehicle to carry the “e:HEV”, standing for “Hybrid Electric Vehicle”.
The advanced two-motor hybrid technology, has already met with widespread acclaim across Europe for delivering high-levels of real-world efficiency and refinement in the CR-V e:HEV.
Unlike traditional hybrids, where the electric motor assists the engine, in the Jazz e:HEV the engine produces electricity which assists the motor. The result is the smooth ride and crisp acceleration of an electric vehicle matched to Honda’s unique control technology — offering outstanding environmental performance without compromising driver enjoyment.
CR-V Hybrid
For the first time ever, the Honda CR-V is now available with a hybrid drivetrain. It arrives with a fresh new look too - muscular wheel arches and sharp contours from front to back.
The new CR-V Hybrid system combines real-world efficiency with an effortless drive. The world’s favourite SUV has the design hallmarks that made it such a success in the first place: a distinctive presence on the outside with premium quality on the inside. Now there’s a new hybrid drivetrain available, equipped with an i-MMD two-motor system. It combines petrol power and the instant response of an electrical motor. Smooth, efficient and beautifully quiet.
